The following is Federal Way’s current and anticipated major street construction (8-29-25) 

(Note: minor road and/or short term street impacts are not reflected here).

CURRENT WORK:

1st Ave South at 293rd – Day time road closures (Tuesday – Thursday September 2-4): City crews will be replacing a storm drainage catch basin on 1st Ave South at South 293rd. Road will be closed to through traffic between SW 292nd and Dash Point Road. See attached detour and alternate routes.

Redondo Creek Culvert Replacement (Project Information): Redondo Way S between Dash Point Road and S 293rd Place will continue to have periodic lane closures with one-way alternating traffic through the end of September. 

288th Road Diet (Ph. 2) – Pacific Hwy to Military Road (Project Information): Night paving Monday and Tuesday (September 8th and 9th) between 8 PM and 5:30 AM at the intersection of Military Road and 288th. Roadway will be reduced to one lane each direction with temporary detours in place as needed. Expect delays.

2025 Overlay Program (Project Information): Starting in April 2025 and continuing through the summer, the city’s contractor, ICON Materials, will be completing pavement overlays in several locations throughout the city. Click on the project information link for maps of the overlay areas.

S 320th / 21st Ave S Pedestrian Signal: On hold at this time.

Citywide Pedestrian Safety Project (Project Information) Various locations: On hold at this time.

Sound Transit – Federal Way Link Extension (FWLE)

Roadway Paving – Haul Route Restorations:

Military Road South – between S 304th Street and Star Lake Road. Sound Transits contractor will be completing roadway overlays to restore haul routes utilized for construction of their project over the next several weeks. Day time temporary lane closures with alternating traffic will be in place.
