The following is Federal Way’s current and anticipated major street construction (8-27-26) 

(Note: minor road and/or short term street impacts are not reflected here).

CURRENT WORK:

S 320^th  - 1^st Ave to Pacific Hwy S Preservation Project (Project Information): Night Work for pavement striping and markings will take place on September 8-11 (weather dependent). Roadway will be reduced to one way each direction. Day time work, requiring temporary lane closures, will continue for the next couple of weeks for utilities to raise their covers and striping to be marked out.

21^st Ave SW  - SW 339^th to SW 320^th Preservation Project (Project Information): Day time work will take place for the next two weeks to complete concrete work. Temporary lane closures will be required. Night work for paving take place August 31-September 8. Roadway will be reduced to one way each direction. Starting September 9 and continuing for 2-3 weeks, day time work for raising utility covers will require temporary lane closures.

288^th Road Diet (Ph. 2) – Pacific Hwy to Military Road (Project Information): Work will restart Monday, August 24 to replace the traffic signal at Military Road / 288^th. Temporary lane closures will be required.

City Center Greenway Project (308^th / 20^th Ave – Pacific Hwy to S 312^th) (Project Information): This project will provide non-motorized connection from the future Pacific Hwy Trail terminus at Pac Hwy / 308^th to the bike/sidewalk network in city center. Most project work will be paused after August 27 to allow the slurry seal to cure. Striping and signage will take place in mid September followed by traffic signal modifications.

High Friction Surface Treatments (Project Information): This project will install high friction surface treatment at 6 locations throughout Federal Way to reduce run-off-the-road crashes on curves.

Construction will occur between August 24th-September 2nd.

To safely complete this work, each roadway will be partially closed for one day on the scheduled construction date for that location. Alternate routes are encouraged.

 Nighttime Road Closure (7 PM - 7 AM)

• 16th Ave S curve, east of SR99 (31st Aug)

 2025 Pedestrian Crossings (Project Information): Starting in March 2026 (through August 2026), temporary lane closures will be required to construct two new pedestrian crossings will be installed at the following locations:

1. 1^st Way S – north of S 340^th Street.
2. Weyerhaeuser Way S – just so of S 344^th Way.

OTHER AGENCY STREET IMPACTS:

Sound Transit - Westbound right lane closures on S 272nd Street

What

In early September, Sound Transit will close the westbound right lane along S 272nd Street in Kent for two days. These closures are for roadway improvements, including roadway paving work along S 272nd Street and Star Lake Road. During this work, the westbound sidewalk will be closed.

Follow all signed detours and drive carefully.
