The City of Federal Way is conducting a Broadband Planning Study, in order to determine if the Federal Way community is adequately served with broadband Internet services for now and the future. Recognizing that Internet access is vital for our community to conduct many aspects of daily life including employment, education, and telehealth. In light of this, the City applied for and was awarded, a broadband planning grant by the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB).

The City assembled a Broadband Advisory Taskforce comprising of elected officials and representatives from various agencies such as Federal Way Public Schools, South King Fire and Rescue, Lakehaven Water & Sewer District, King County, Greater Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, as well as Comcast Xfinity.  This taskforce meets monthly throughout 2022, while this study is underway.

Government Technology Group, LLC. has been retained as a consultant to assist the City in this study. Please see the following press release:

A key part of this project is to assess the needs of the community therefore the city has developed a survey to be completed to help gather this data. The survey can be completed online at: https://uqr.to/cfwbis.

The study was launched at the end of May 2022, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
