BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Federal Way is building a network of bicycle and pedestrian routes for both transportation and recreation.  20th Avenue S and S 308th Street are designated as a greenway by the Federal Way Greenway Plan and are identified in the Southwest King County Trails Plan as a key connection in the City.  The City recently constructed a path along 16th Avenue S to Federal Way High School, and there are existing bike lanes and sidewalks from S 312th Street connecting to the City Center.  The purpose of this project is to improve the non-motorized connection along S 308th Street and 20th Avenue South, between Federal Way High School and the City Center.

Greenways are streets where pedestrians and bicyclists are the priority.  This is done through methods like providing a space for pedestrians and bicyclists, roadway striping, signage, and traffic calming.  This project will encourage pedestrians and bicyclists to position themselves safely and make drivers more aware of them.
