Volunteers make the world go around, and without their help, many things would not get done.  We rely on the civic-mindedness of our residents who want to get involved with our City.  And we appreciate them very much.  Below is a list of some of the city departments and community organizations who are looking for volunteers.  We hope that one of them will peak your interest. 

Become a Board Member or a Commissioner

Federal Way Community Center Inclusion Programs

The City of Federal Way’s Inclusion Programs provide therapeutic (and fun!) recreation classes for our community’s residents with disabilities. Volunteers assist staff with classes. No special skills needed (other than a big heart!).

Federal Way Police Department has a very dynamic, active volunteer program that provides support services to many different areas within our agency.  All Police volunteers must be 18 years of age and are required to pass a background check, which includes a polygraph.

The Surface Water Management (SWM) Division’s volunteers help monitor water quality in streams, plant native trees and shrubs, remove invasive plants from critical habitats, mark storm drains, or pick up litter along our stream corridors.

Communities in Schools Federal Way

CIS mentors provide a positive role model and consistent adult support for students who have been identified as being “on the brink of success.” By establishing a caring relationship with an adult, students are more able to stay on the path to success in both school and in life.  Mentors meet one-to-one with a student at their school for about 45-60 minutes per week during the school year.  For more information please visit our website at https://federalway.ciswa.org/volunteer/

Federal Way Cares for Kids

Federal Way Cares for Kids is a nonprofit which coordinates the talents, resources, and skills of local organizations and individuals to maximize support received by kids and families served by Federal Way schools. 

Federal Way Community Gardens Foundation

Federal Way Community Suppers

On Thursday evenings, the Community Supper program at the Federal Way Calvary Lutheran Church provides hot meals and some basic services to anyone who is in need.  Volunteers are needed for post-meal clean-up as part of a 5-6 person team.  Duties include washing dishes, vacuuming, moving tables and chairs, and other similar tasks.  We are looking for a commitment to volunteer regularly on one week a month. For more information please visit http://www.fwccn.org

Federal Way Day Center

The Federal Way Day Center opened in December 2016.  It provides a welcoming space to adults who are homeless and vulnerably housed.  The Day Center offers showers, laundry, computers, phones, mail reception services, space for meal preparation, a full-service low barrier clinic, access to health care and social services.  The Day center enlists the support of volunteers.

Meals on Wheels
