Commercial Recycling Services

Waste Management provides garbage service and limited free recycling service for businesses. Up to two 96-gallon blue recycling carts are available at no cost to all businesses located in the City of Federal Way. City staff will also provide support and resources to businesses and property managers to help them get the most out of their recycling programs. Contact Waste Management or the City of Federal Way for free on-site recycling planning and training for staff, custodians, and maintenance personnel. Commercial Compost Collection

The Washington State Legislature passed organics management laws in 2022 and 2024. These laws aim to divert organic materials, including food waste, away from the landfills through prevention, food rescue, and composting facilities. Many businesses in Washington - including public and nonprofit entities such as schools, churches, and hospitals - must now arrange for organic materials collection. 

The City of Federal Way has compiled resources to help businesses comply with the organics management law. You can also reach out to the City Environmental Services team at recycle@federalwaywa.gov for technical assistance and free supplies for your businesses.
