Federal Way's Comprehensive Traffic Safety Action Plan (CTSAP) was completed in 2026. This data-driven document is used to guide Federal Way's investment in traffic safety. The CTSAP is just the start of Federal Way's commitment to ensure transparency and accountability and work with urgency to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured while walking, biking, or driving in Federal Way.
Federal Way's Comprehensive Traffic Safety Action Plan
The goal of the City of Federal Way's CTSAP was to develop a holistic, well-defined strategy to prevent fatalities and serious injuries for all roadway users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transport users, motorists, and commercial vehicle operators.
The development of the CTSAP centered center on the Safe System Approach, which underscores the shared responsibilities around road safety and the importance of layered, proactive strategies for addressing safe streets, people, and vehicles. The USDOT Safe System Approach is a proactive method of creating a future transportation system that is forgiving of mistakes, provides critical redundancy, and shares responsibility for crash severity reduction.
