The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Western Washington through Tuesday, Aug. 12. Mayor Ferrell is proactively preparing for the dangers of the forecast, which calls for temperatures to exceed 90 degrees on Tuesday.
βWe are opening the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) as a cooling center during regular business hours Tuesday, Aug. 12, due to the expected dangerous levels of heat,β Ferrell said. βSome weather forecasts are predicting a high of 93 degrees in our region on Tuesday, Aug. 12. The City of Federal Way is committed to ensuring the safety of our hard-working residents.β
The FWCC operates during the following hours: Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cooling center is open to the public free of charge, but no pets are allowed.
