The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures for Western Washington June 14 and 15. Mayor Jim Ferrell is proactively preparing for the dangers of the forecast, which calls for temperatures at or above 90 degrees on June 14 and 15.
βWe are opening the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) as a cooling center during regular business hours June 14 and 15, due to the expected dangerous levels of heat,β Ferrell said. βSome weather forecasts are predicting highs in the low-to-mid 90s in our region. The City of Federal Way is committed to ensuring the safety of our hard-working residents.β
The FWCC operates during the following hours: Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cooling center is open to the public free of charge, but no pets are allowed.
