The City is currently selecting artwork for the new Joint Maintenance & Operations Facility, which will open later this year. This artwork selection follows the process outlined in city code.

A committee of City staff and Arts Commission members has made a final recommendation to the City Council: β€œFederal Way Operations and Maintenance: Four Seasons of Dedicated Care” by artist Tsovinar Muradyan.

Before the Council makes its final decision between the recommended proposal and a second finalist, we want to hear from you.

The two finalist proposals can be viewed below. Public feedback is welcome and can be sent to PW_Bids@federalwaywa.gov.

The City Council will confirm the final artwork selection at the January 20, 2026 Council Meeting.

Proposal #1: "Federal Way Operations and Maintenance: Four Seasons of Dedicated Care” by Tsovinar Muradyan

This artwork honors the Federal Way Operations & Maintenance teams for their year-round dedication that keeps the city cared for, resilient, and vibrant through every season.

Each season unfolds its own story, reflecting the people, the tasks they perform, the equipment they use, and the natural elements unique to that time of year. Gentle transitions link these moments together, carrying the narrative forward in a continuous rhythm.

Together, the composition becomes a quiet symbol of belonging, celebrating the harmony between nature, human commitment, and the shared life of the community.

Proposal #2: "Stewards of the Living City" by Ben Dye & Travis Pond

This design elevates Operations & Maintenance workers as the stewards of the living city, weaving their story across three designated sites and three additional locations for a unified and powerful experience.

By placing the city at the center, embraced by the natural environment, the installation reflects the profound responsibility O&M holds in sustaining both urban systems and the ecosystems that surround them. It becomes a tangible narrative, bringing visibility and honor to the workers whose contributions are often hidden behind the wall.
