The goal of the City of Federal Way's Traffic Safety Action Plan is to develop a holistic, well-defined strategy to prevent fatalities and serious injuries for all roadway users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transport users, motorists, and commercial vehicle operators. This project will develop the Traffic Safety Action Plan that will satisfy the components of the USDOT SS4A program.

Development of the TSAP will center on the Safe System Approach, which underscores the shared responsibilities around road safety and the importance of layered, proactive strategies for addressing safe streets, people, and vehicles. The USDOT Safe System Approach is a proactive method of creating a future transportation system that is forgiving of mistakes, provides critical redundancy, and shares responsibility for crash severity reduction.
