General Information

Do not appear in court if you are ill, experiencing flu like symptoms, including but not limited to COVID-19, or have recently been exposed to someone positively diagnosed with COVID-19.  Please contact your attorney or, if you are not represented, the court at FW.Court@cityoffederalway.com to request information.  Face coverings are recommended but optional to enter the courthouse.  Please be aware that if you choose not to wear one, you will still need to have one available; some staff or attorneys may request that you wear one while you are in close proximity.

Criminal Hearings in Court

Court is conducting hearings in person and via Zoom conferencing.  If you fail to appear in person or via Zoom for your hearing, a warrant may be issued for your arrest. If you have not received a Zoom meeting number and password, then you are expected to appear in person.

Infraction Hearings

Infraction hearings are in person and also taking place via Zoom.  Your meeting number and password should be on your notice of court date. Payments

The Judicial Specialists are authorized to extend payments due dates for 120 days on new citations.  Please contact the court to discuss payment arrangements if needed.

Probation

About the Court

The Municipal Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. The Municipal Court judge is authorized by Washington State statute to preside over the following types of cases: 

  • Traffic infractions
  • Criminal and gross misdemeanors
  • Civil, vehicle impound hearings.

The Municipal Court does not hear small claims or civil cases, change names or issue passports. The court strives to be an asset to the community through other programs that benefit the community.

The Federal Way Municipal Court provides an accessible forum for individuals to resolve issues and to settle disputes in a fair, courteous and dignified way in accordance with due process of law.

Electronic Filing of Documents

You can electronically file documents with the court or probation on this website or by email or fax.  You may not file your Photo Enforcement hearing request, follow the instructions on your Notice.  For general inquiries you may email the court at FW.Court@cityoffederalway.com  

Mediation
